What is Rye?

Rye is a cereal grain, like wheat, oats or barley. It’s a tough plant that can grow in harsh cold and windy conditions - it’s even grown as far north as the Arctic Circle! We try to source our rye from farmers throughout the UK and we work closely with all our farmers to support the British countryside.

Why is Rye good for me?

Rye is naturally high in fibre and a source of magnesium. At Ryvita, we use rye flour to make our rye crispbread which means we capture lots of this goodness in every bite*.

What is fibre and how much should I be eating?

Fibre is an important part of a healthy balanced diet. It is a nutrient that exists in two forms – soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fibre is not digested, and passes through the body whereas soluble fibre is digested, a healthy diet should include both types.

Fibre comes from plant sources, and is not found in meat, fish or dairy. Oats, barley and rye are good sources of soluble fibre, as are fruits and vegetables; whereas other plant sources such as nuts and seeds are good sources of insoluble fibre.

The government recommends an adult should eat 30g of dietary fibre a day but most are eating much less than this, 4 slices of Ryvita Multigrain Rye Crispbread with your lunch provides around 8g of fibre, helping you towards you daily target.

All Ryvita Rye Crispbread contain rye flour making them a high fibre food*. Multigrain Rye Crispbread contain the highest amounts of fibre with 18.3g per 100g! Check out our recipe section to discover loads of tasty ways to enjoy Ryvita Rye Crispbread and get more fibre into your diet.
